There is no place I avoid playing. When I plan to tour my management looks for every reasonable opportunity and together we come up with the best possible plan. I don’t skip over countries or cities. I think it’s important to point out that my solo project is a very modest sized endeavor that many concert promoters take a risk bringing to town. Many of them did it on good faith out of respect for Incubus.
And many of them haven’t yet. I can’t blame them for that. My music doesn’t get played on the radio. My albums don’t get reviewed in magazines. The only people who find me are people like you, people who don’t need a magazine to tell them that there’s more music than what gets handed to them. And every single day of my life I’m thankful that even in a world transfixed on insta-sextape fame I can make jams in my crib and jump in the tour van.
I wanted to play in Paris fucking badly. Man, I lay in bed and dream about playing Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Brussels, Vienna, Munich, Stockholm, Oslo, Prague, Moscow, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Caracas, Bogota, Buenos Aires, Rio, Sao Paulo, Lima, San Jose, San Juan, Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Chicago, Albuquerque, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto, Reykjavik, Cairo, Accra, Capetown, Goa…. man I could go on forever. That is what I want. That is what I dream about. And this is what I am working towards. But at this moment it isn’t on the table.
A few years ago playing London wasn’t on the table either. And now I have a sold out gig at Barfly.
I just want ask you guys to be patient. I’m not making any money with this. I’m not sitting in a giant office sipping cognac with Yeezy throwing darts at a map. I’m emptying out my bank account for a dream. I’m sleeping in a van and eating at Denny’s and testing the patience of everyone who loves me so I can play for this music you, and most importantly for me.
Trust me, no one on this earth wants a “Ben Kenney” concert in Paris more than I do. Just give me a little more time to make it worthwhile for the promoters. And don’t stop tweeting and messaging me about it. It helps more than you can imagine.
